How To Die Of Old Age, Not Disease

Bookmark and Share

How is it that as technology advances and new inventions designed to make life easier, more people in the developed world are dying from cancer, heart disease and stroke every year?

The key lies in the lack of awareness and action. More people need to know about the connections between the lives they lead and how it affects their bodies. But knowledge is nothing if not applicable. There is a need to take extra effort to act on the knowledge to make tough but necessary lifestyle changes that will stop the disease and put our overtaxed body back on the path to health and wellness.

Creating awareness

Let's talk about cholesterol. This is one of the fat in the blood and can lead to serious health problems like heart disease and stroke. However, how many people actually know this? We can vaguely "know" good and bad cholesterol, from what we read or hear in the news, but not many of us will make a connection between what we eat on a daily basis now, and disease that erupts years down the road. Even less will do something about this link.

According to the director of the Cardiovascular Division at the George Institute for International Health, Associate Professor Bruce Neal, many Australians do not appreciate fully the health risks caused by cholesterol. If so, many deaths could be prevented.

The good news is that high cholesterol is a problem that is preventable and treatable with a better diet, more exercise and (for some) drugs. Unfortunately, most people are not even aware that they May be at risk of cholesterol-related health problems, and would not have their cholesterol levels checked regularly.

What can we do to educate about disease prevention and healthy living? For starters, we can find out more. The Internet is an incredible amount of useful information from reliable, respected sources such as regulatory sites and medical research Web site. Health magazines often carry a short, easy-to-digest articles on the latest health and research. The library is a free resource for specialized and general health topics. This is where my husband and I chanced upon Dr. Sandra Cabot is a wonderfully readable, but very informative book on liver cleansing diet, weight loss and cholesterol.

the food we eat

Our bodies are becoming burdened with high levels of trans and saturated fats, which keep our blood vessels and organs. They should be broken down and flushed out of the system, but there is enough fiber to help them move along. The result is overcrowded, diseased intestine and liver, which in turn leads to disease. 2-pronged solution is recommended. First, increase the amount of live food in our diet. Living foods are raw, unprocessed foods that (still) contain vitamins, minerals and enzymes necessary to help you properly break down and digest food. If you can, choose organic food. It is pesticide free, GMO free, and has more useful components, and some even claim that it tastes better

Probiotics are a supplement beneficial microorganisms that protect and build the gastrointestinal health. The latter include sewage, industrial activities, pesticide runoff, improper disposal and unsafe water. What do we feed our skin?

skin is the largest organ in our body, which makes it a point of entry of toxins into the system. All that is applied to the skin is potentially absorbed. This includes anti-aging creams and serums, moisturizers, facial cleansers, cosmetics, sunscreen, shampoo and deodorant. Off-the-shelf products have notoriously high levels of harmful chemical ingredients (some of which cause cancer), May we not be aware, because they are not fully disclosed on the ingredient label, and even if they did, we would not understand them. Over time, the use of these products contributes to toxic build-up of the disease.

In the U.S., the cosmetic industry is self-regulating and resource-strapped regulators have the legal muscle to carry out product and ingredient reviews. This means that we do not know how much we should about the effects of ingredients on our long-term health. In the meantime, we continue to buy based on brand recognition and price and unknowingly contribute to levels of toxins in our body. The solution? Start by reading ingredient labels. Find out what parabens, sodium lauryl / laureth sulfates and phthalates can do for you and your children. There are toxic substances useful dictionaries on the Internet. Second, switch to organic personal care products. Or better yet, find a vendor whose products are certified organic from a reputable independent certifying authority. It is the only way you can guarantee quality products.

agents for dishwashing and laundry detergents and multipurpose cleaners tend to emphasize efficiency over security. When you read the product label of the average cleaning product, contains a warning that you should not inhale or ingest the product because it can cause irritation or poisoning. This is a rough indication of its contents. Some companies are realizing that there is a growing demand for safer cleaning products and have developed a phosphate-free, ammonia-free and odorless alternative. Look for these in your supermarket or online ships. Again, if you can, choose organic.

What do we feed our minds?

a cornerstone of good health is a balanced diet and exercise. However, as part of a more holistic approach to health, we must be aware of what we feed our minds. As a man thinks, so he is. If you want to attract the positive into your life, you have to adjust your mind to focus on the positive. The attitudes and actions flow from mind. Focus your energy on thinking about what is good, clean and useful for you and others, and to replace self-limiting thoughts such as "can not ", "I do not know how" or "not".
